HELENWe got to chat with the totally fabulous Helen Lao Baxter!

Tell us about your career:

I started my career after graduating Bryant University in Smithfield, RI with a Bachelors in Business Administration. I moved to Boston, MA trying to figure out “what I wanted to do when I grew up.” I took a retail sales role with an automotive company which led me into my first junior recruiting role. That was the start of my 15 year career in recruiting and human resources with a number of different industries all across the country. I have been fortunate to have some tremendous mentors along the way that have helped me get to where I am currently.

I founded ClearPath Solutions four year ago. We started without a single client and I often describe it as a humbling experience. I had always been recognized in my career for developing strong working relationships and key partnerships with those I supported and thought the transition would be easy. After endless hours, and much determination and persistence, our team works with top brands in our industries.

I recently became a Managing Partner with Carsmetics in Orange County. We have four stores in the area and my role includes building a social media strategy, identifying opportunities to introduce this hidden gem to the community. I was blown away by the quality of work and over the past months our team has been building these stores with women in mind and making the environment one that was warm and inviting.

Tell us about your family

I landed in Orange County 8 years ago and absolutely love living in southern California. I have four beautiful children, Brooke (13), Carson (10), Logan (9) and Nicholas aka Boo (4). They are my entire world.

What’s the hardest part about being a working mom?

The constant struggle of balance and the feeling of guilt. I know that I’ve personally struggled with the guilt throughout my career as a working mom. The constant feeling of “am I doing enough, giving enough, being enough” for my four children.

What advice do you have for working moms?

Don’t subscribe to societal expectations, family pressures, and all the friendly “advice” of what you should be doing as a “good mom.” I have finally taken my own advice which is, “do what works for you, your children and your own family.” There is no one “right way” when it comes to raising children. My advice? Just be the best parent you can be.

What advice do you have for women looking for work?

Network, network, network. I built my entire business on relationships and leveraging networks.

What inspires you?

Meaningful relationships. I am inspired every single day by my talented executive search team who are out there representing ClearPath Solutions and building meaningful relationships. My team takes passion and drive to another level. They truly inspire me to be great every single day.
